Good morning, friends. I can’t believe that I’ve been a mother for a whole year now. The one thing I’ve always known is that I wanted to be a mother “when I grow up.” It took 30 years but when I became a mother, I found my true calling in life.
My sweet angel baby, Katheryn Joelle, arrived on April 18, 2017 five weeks early after a 35-hour, induced labor and 39 minutes of pushing at 10:58pm. She was (and still is) absolutely perfect! She weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces and was 19.25 inches long.
The struggle of my pregnancy. The constant fatigue. My ever-changing thyroid levels. Towards the end, the gestational diabetes and preeclampsia with elevated liver enzymes and hypertension. All of these things were worth the happiness I have gained from this little girl.
Katheryn is now 19 pounds, 10 ounces and 27.8 inches long. She is full of love and joyful always.
She has 6 teeth and is working on several more. She’s finally starting to accumulate some hair on the top of her head. She scoots on her bottom everywhere and is starting to pull up.
Katheryn has been eating solid foods since four months old. She loves just about everything we give her to try. She breast-fed up until last week, albeit sporadic in the end. She supplemented with formula the entire first year of her life. Her appetite always surpassed my production. I’m thankful that I have a baby that likes to eat. Her favorite foods include broccoli, mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, green beans, lima beans, strawberries, peaches, spaghetti, rotisserie chicken, roast, and so much more!
She loves to read books, listen to music, and play with anything that makes noise. She loves bath time and playing in her bedroom. She enjoys watching sports with her daddy and Wheel of Fortune with her mama.
Her bedtime songs include “Jesus Love Me,” “This Little Light of Mine,” “You are my Sunshine,” “Love Lifted Me,” and “Soft Kitty.”
Katheryn attends daycare with the most amazing childcare providers who love her almost as much as we do. They call her “Sweet Cheeks” and “Joelle.”
She says, “Mama,” “Dada,” “No No No” while shaking her head, and sometimes she sounds like she’s saying other things like, “Nana,” “Hey,” and “Bye bye.”
This last year has been wonderfully hard. We’ve been sleep-deprived and blessed beyond measure. We have enjoyed watching our sweet girl grow and blossom into the most fun-loving, determined, strong, and sassy toddler. We love her dearly and can’t wait for many more years of loving her! She is a beautiful, wonderful, child of God and “…she is more precious than rubies.” -Proverbs 31:1
