Lost and Found Priorities

Hi friends!

Have you ever felt so lost that you didn’t even know where or how to begin to get back on track? I know that feeling well.

Almost two years ago, I was at that point in my life where I had several major life events happen all at once. I got married. We bought a house. My mom passed away. I quit a high-demand, exhausting job. And then I realized I was battling a major episode of depression and anxiety.

All of this collided into me like a Mack truck.

I felt like I was drowning in quicksand with no rescue in sight.

Luckily for me, I have faith and a pretty amazing husband.

Once I grasped the situation that I was in, I took some action steps to make myself and my health a priority.

I went to the doctor to get my thyroid in check. I started seeing a psychiatrist, a counselor, and spending more time with God. I also went from “working” at home to a lower stress career outside the home.

When my thyroid got leveled out, it felt like it was almost instantly that I got pregnant. It’s amazing what will happen when you take care of your body, mind, and soul.

“So refuse to worry, and keep your body healthy. But remember that youth, with a whole life before you, is meaningless.” – Ecclesiastes 11:10 NLT

God tells us to refuse to worry. This is so powerful for me because I tend to be a worrier, a people pleaser, and a perfectionist. I want to take hold of this verse and own it as my new mantra.

“Keep your body healthy.” Ugh. The struggle is real, y’all! As a new working mama with a husband to keep happy, I struggle hard with putting myself last on my list of priorities. Not only is this not what God wants from me but this is also counterproductive for my marriage and my baby girl. There is no way we can take care of our families if we are not first taking care of ourselves. Tired, overworked, unhealthy wives and mamas are rarely giving their A-game to their families. It’s time we start making ourselves a priority so that our husbands and children start getting the wife and mama they deserve. This will make us feel good and it will make our Heavenly Father happy too.

Friends, I want to encourage you today if you are lost, hurting, or just a little confused. God loves us. He put us on this Earth for His good works. These good works can only be done if we start by taking care of ourselves first.

This is something I am personally working on right now and I’d love to hear from you on how you make this a reality in your life.

How do you make yourself a priority so that you are able to do God’s work through your life with your husband, children, and/or career? Leave me a comment below to share.

  1. I struggle with this terribly. Having a large family, running two small businesses and homeschooling has me burning the candle at both ends all the time. I tend to take very little time for me and tend to run on the impatient (short fused) side these days. I’m trying to figure out ways to balance that won’t cost much or anything…. and doesn’t put me getting up early or staying out late. A monthly GNO would be lovely but not hardly enough.
